EPOCHARYAN

A medical lab re-creates our closest ancestor from the fossils of a missing link. Now science must identify the behavioral flaws that lead to its extinction before history repeats.

Defined by its minimal dialogue and primal depiction of modern-day problems, “Epocharyan” is a wake up call about the direction of inflation and political divide.

Something needs to change. Igknokt, an up and coming dominant young male, is tired of living under the thumb of the medical staff. The food they provide is used as currency, and the elderly alpha just lost his mate and unborn child to an ectopic pregnancy. With no sire, and little time left, he elects a timid – but highly intelligent – young omega male named Ker. He’s well on his way to discovering agriculture, and their beloved old leader sees potential in this. However, when the alpha dies; the rest of the community doesn’t respect Ker, and their society falls into chaos—forcing Igknokt to assert order, inevitably making him the new alpha male. But not everyone agrees with his anti-medical staff policies…

Firm but kind hearted, Igknokt has taken a runt and the abused daughter of his rival under his wing. The world is changing before the little one’s eyes, and as power struggle emerges and war begins to break out; the runt and his lady must figure out how they will survive in an ever evolving society. Under the protection of Igknokt, agriculture has taken off – and since their food is their currency, so has inflation. Blue collar primates are being ruthlessly kicked from their homes, the discovery of fire that could be used to build is being used to destroy; and as the once sweet and timid Ker is taking a liking to wealth and power…his moral standings are becoming questionable. Igknokt is overthrown, and now the whole society is under the thumb of his selfish and ruthless rival.

No one can afford a living, and among the youth who are to inherit the world, few are clinging to a work ethic. The runt works two jobs to try and make ends meet; but something’s got to give…even he gives way to fighting and bloodshed to survive. With money devalued, there’s no other choice. He loses his life fighting for a home for his lady and newborn infant. Over the years her grief builds… and leads to a riot that prompts all the homeless, the blue collars, and even the children… to riot. After watching a complex society rise and fall right before their eyes; medical staff are forced to question the ways of their own society as it became clear how those we hardly evolved from extinguished their own species.

MEET THE CAST OF THE PROVISIONAL TRAILER

In 2025 we attempted to shoot a trailer for the film as proof of concept. This trailer didn’t do a good job representing the project and was removed so it wouldn’t detract from it. Regardless, we thank and owe credit to all who participated.

The prop seen in act one being buried by Trinity Gilles was left over from a previous practice-project called “Innocent”. The actress for Kendra, played by Kerry Lynch, showed up last minute filling in for the original actress (who had been Patrick Rico’s sister) and bringing camera man Rinaldi along with her. Even the Maynard police department stepped in to help, overseeing the climactic ending in act three and even offering a spotlight from the cruiser to light the scene.

It should be obvious to spot the primitive nature of our politics and the way we treat each other when you’re watching a bunch of cavemen doing it.

How far have we really come?

We first started writing Epocharyan in 2016.

The end goal was to reveal that our ape-like ancestors were too smart for their own good – and extincted themselves with the development of politics and capitalism. The first human survived evolution because it was the dumbed down version of the cavemen who had evolved too rapidly and destroyed their species in the process.

We created this script to beg the question: are we heading towards the same fate? Are we too smart for our own good?

Where are we going? In Epocharyan, the innovative discovery of fire inevitably burns down all they built. In real life, technology is driving humanity further apart. The cost of living is going up and the chance for new generations to have a home and support a family is becoming a pipedream. Hard work doesn’t pay off anymore, and the US dollar continues to depreciate.

In the movie, they resort to fighting each other for the basic resources they can no longer afford. How much longer before we start doing the same?
